Currencies

Currencies may be exchanged at merchants for their wares. Occasionally there will be event currencies circulating in the player economy; these can be exchanged at their respective merchants for higher-grade items.

General

Gold coins, or simply "gold" is the main currency used in Dark and Darker.

Gold is required to:

• Buy items from merchants
• Craft certain items
• Buy items from the Marketplace
• Pay Marketplace listing fees when putting an item up for auction
• Pay the ante for playing High Roller mode (when the ante is active)
• Rent additional Stash tabs

Gold coins can be accumulated by:

• Finding them in dungeons as drops from Monsters, loot from Containers, or Loose Loot. They may also be carried by other players.
• Completing certain quests
• Selling an item through the Marketplace
• Receiving them in a trade through the Trading Post

Gold Containers

Gold containers can save space in your stash by compacting stacks of gold coins. If a gold coin would be transferred to a stash tab or your inventory while a non-full gold container is there, the coins will automatically be added to the container. Gold received from a Marketplace sale also magnets to gold containers. You can transfer gold between containers more quickly by dragging one onto the other.
