Description

Does melee attacks, teleports on the player, applies a stacking debuff, does a slam attack, can summon 3 Death Skulls, performs a far reaching scream attack that hits anything in the direction that he's facing.

Moveset

  • Teleport Attack = 20 Magical True Damage.
  • Scream = 10 Magical True Damage.
  • Orb Attack = 30 Magical True Damage.
  • Earthquake = 1500 Physical (Instant Kill).
  • Teleport.
  • Curse of Chilling = Debuff that increases damage taken by Ghost Kings abilities.
  • Eating = Roots a player in place and siphons his health.

Guide

Ghost can be located in the middle of the Inferno maps having a 50% to spawn. He can be spotted waiting alone in the middle of the room. As soon as a player walks in to the room he will engage with his Teleport Attack.

Preparation

The most important aspect of this fight is team composition. Most optimal team currently is 1 Cleric and 2 Ranger as this gives you sustain with cleric's heals and high DPS with rangers. Optionally you can substitute one Ranger for another class as well.

You will be required to bring decent amount of Healing potions with different rarities to be able to stack healing. However, it should be noted that Potion of Protections do not work due to it only blocking physical damage. It is very important your Cleric has all his spells available prior to this fight so bringing Campfires is essential.

When it comes to equipment quality for each player, you will need better gear than your basic gear but you do not need all legendries.

If you also have any of the skeleton skins that was available through Shop it is very helpful since it gives +10 Magic Resistance.

Roles:

Ranger

  • As a Ranger you are the main damage dealer of this comp.
  • You need to position far away from the Ghost King and keep rotation around as cursed circles appear.
  • If you do get low do not forget to keep your potions up and ask for heals from your cleric
  • If you are running a bow you have to run Quickshot as it deals a burst of damage. Optionally for more damage you can add Multishot and if not use Field Ration for sustain.

Barbarian(Melee)

  • As a Melee DPS you need to be very cautious of getting stacks of Curse of Chilling.
  • It is harder for you to run away from Eating ability so pay close attention to the blue bubble that will appear around Ghost King and start running away even if you cannot tell if it is agroed to you.

Cleric

  • You are the pillar of this comp, without you it is very difficult for your allies to stay alive.
  • Make sure all your abilities are available and communicate with your team how much you have left.
  • Pay attention to the curse stacks and use Cleanse if it is above 10 stacks. If you do not and your ally does not run out in time they will most likely die.
  • Pay very close attention to the abilities Ghost King is casting and time your heals and buffs efficiently. For example do not try to heal or buff when Ghost King is getting ready for Earthquake.
  • Select both healing spells and some buff spells depending on your spell capacity.

Encounter

As you enter the room Ghost King will teleport to the first player that has entered the room and will leave a Curse pool after doing his teleport attack. This is easily avoidable by just running by it or waiting for it attack. He will repeat this move through out the fight. It is recommended to stay apart from your teammates and far to the edges of arena to prevent it from being covered by Curse Pools.

Ghost King will also do a Scream attack doing damage to everyone in the arena amplified by the amount of Curse stacks you have. This attack is unavoidable.

Sometimes he will do his Orb Attack shooting 5 orbs towards a player that will hit for 30 Magical True Damage each orb.

Occasionally, he will cast a bubble around himself and start chasing a player. If the player gets caught he will start draining its health. To avoid this press x to unsheathe your weapon and run. If you get caught your cleric needs to heal you for you to be able to survive. In the case you get drained on a Curse Pool, you will die.

Lastly and most importantly, his Earthquake ability will one shot anyone in the room that does not jump in time. To perfectly time the jump you need to pay attention to his head and when you spot blue sparks that's when you need to jump. If you survived the jump Ghost King will spawn 3 Death Skulls. Running Holy Prufication on your Cleric will one shot these.

Loot

Ghost King will drop 3 items from drop table and 1 from Misc table (High Roller will drop better loot). There will also be some chests in the room that can be looted but most importantly the room will have a change spawn a Treasure which will give you the ability to loot indefinitely as long as you have space in your inventory.

High Roller Ghost King will be identical in mechanics but have more HP and deal more damage.

Not invincible. Just give yourself a shield that absorbs 1000 damage.

Before he fires his missiles try to jump crouch and remain crouched look down after landing. He aims at your head prior to shooting so the goal is to get him to shoot above your head. This works from melee to mid range , haven’t tried enough at long range to give a definite answer

In my experience, you can crouch without jumping to dodge his Orb Attack if you are close enough - within maybe 1.5 to 2 halberd-lengths. But from further away, you will still get hit. My guess is that the orbs originate from a point slightly above players' head height, so the orbs naturally angle slightly downward. This would mean that walking towards the boss while crouching should improve your odds of dodging them. Jumping into a crouch should work at any range except maybe point-blank, provided you can time the jump correctly.

If you are close enough, you can also simply circle-strafe left to dodge the orbs - I don't remember for sure, but I think circle-strafe right definitely doesn't do it.

Its obvious at this point that the damage described on earthquake is simply not true, its not just 60 physical damage in normals because if it was the damage would not be enough to kill ever a base gear rogue, does anyone know the exact numbers?

Its glitched and hits twice, until this is fixed/rebalanced we have doubled the numbers on Monsters page for simplicity. we may remove damage numbers from boss-specific pages soon as they create more pain points that need to be updated regularly. TBD.

It actually says 60dmg phys + 30dmg magic btw.. also atm I have lived through an earthquake on my cleric in normal probably thanks to the increased character health pools. If you’re having trouble doing the jump and are with teammates you can run out of the room to avoid dog assuming someone stays inside to avoid resetting

Red number = elite dmgs. So the magic dmgs aren't supposed to happen. Still it's not enough to OS most of the characters

With mostly common quality gear, Physical Damage Reduction build fighter, with Dark Cuirass as chest armor to get some magical resist, on normal run barely survives earthquake attack, if they miss timing of jump, however it takes them VERY low on health. I think that like week ago or something I was reading from somewhere in this wiki that damage would be 100 physical + 60 magical or something, but no idea how correct info that page had, or what page it was that had those numbers, it definitely looked different than this one now looks. But with around 40-45% PDR and maybe 18% Magical Damage Reduction that would mean around 100 * 0.57 = 57 physical & 60 * 0.82 = 49,2 magical, totaling into 106,2 damage through armor, meaning that 126 hp fighter build would be left with ~20hp, meaning 1/5 of their max hp from full health. To be honest that feels like LOT CLOSER to what my experience about week ago of being in Ghost King fight was. Since I was only one first timing that fight in our party, for considerable part of fight I remained at distance and used bow, so I was able to remain without any of those "take extra damage from all other attacks" stacks from pools, but I seemed to need to keep my health up at maximum, to ensure surviving earthquake attacks should I fail that jump timing (That I ended up failing more than 50% of time on that run).

Only slight "abnormality" in that run was, that we had two parties fighting it. Since our party ended up meeting other party that reached it at same time and we all just decided we would rather have the Ghost king fight than risk some extended pvp that leaves too little time/health/people alive to fight GK.
