===Developer Comments===
This update continues the expansion of the Random Dungeon system. The Random Dungeon system have now been applied to both the Ruins and Goblin Cave dungeons. We have also added numerous new modules to various locales. This update also adds more class content as we flesh out of the Sorcerer class with new perks and spells.
In our quest to make the game more accessible we feel we have made good progress with the current Normal game modes. However, we also feel that we have lost a lot of the hardcore edge we originally intended. In the past we had pursued the strategy of pushing the High-roller mode as the definitive end goal for ALL players and tried to press players into that mode by retaining a high level of consistency between the Normal and HR modes. Recently, our thinking has changed and we now look at the High-Roller experience as a uniquely separate experience from the Normal mode. 
Our goal for High-rollers is no longer broad appeal or high participation, but a return to a true hardcore playground that serves as a high-end test for only the strongest willed players and parties. We believe that the original versions of DaD with the dark swarm circles and random portals are more aligned with this vision, and we will be testing the return of that system for the HR dungeons. 
Please understand that there will be growing pains as we tune this system to properly work along with the new random dungeons and continuous matchmaking system. We will also need time to better adjust the rewards for surviving the much more brutal HR dungeons. Unfortunately, our internal capacity has limits in finding the correct balance for the new HR dungeons, and our goal is to fine-tune this system along with the hardcore community so we can properly release a “Return to the Hardcore Dungeons” by the start of the next season.
We also like to notify players that the current Arena Test Season #2 will be ending soon in March. Please see the timer in the Arena leaderboard for the precise date. We’ve collected good data and will be making some adjustments for Arena Test Season #3 which will begin shortly afterwards. Please note that for the shortened Arena Test Season #3, we plan to temporarily allow players to keep their items after a loss, even if the item does not have the “Found by the player” designation. We also plan to update the map rotation for the next Arena season including the addition of new modules.
Finally, players will now be able to see their ban/report data for the cheaters they have reported. The data is displayed for a rolling reporting period (currently set at the previous 30 days.) We plan to utilize this data to make large improvements to the reporting system and build a cleaner experience for everyone. We thank you for your continued support and see you in the dungeons!

Developer Comments

This update continues the expansion of the Random Dungeon system. The Random Dungeon system have now been applied to both the Ruins and Goblin Cave dungeons. We have also added numerous new modules to various locales. This update also adds more class content as we flesh out of the Sorcerer class with new perks and spells.

In our quest to make the game more accessible we feel we have made good progress with the current Normal game modes. However, we also feel that we have lost a lot of the hardcore edge we originally intended. In the past we had pursued the strategy of pushing the High-roller mode as the definitive end goal for ALL players and tried to press players into that mode by retaining a high level of consistency between the Normal and HR modes. Recently, our thinking has changed and we now look at the High-Roller experience as a uniquely separate experience from the Normal mode. 

Our goal for High-rollers is no longer broad appeal or high participation, but a return to a true hardcore playground that serves as a high-end test for only the strongest willed players and parties. We believe that the original versions of DaD with the dark swarm circles and random portals are more aligned with this vision, and we will be testing the return of that system for the HR dungeons. 

Please understand that there will be growing pains as we tune this system to properly work along with the new random dungeons and continuous matchmaking system. We will also need time to better adjust the rewards for surviving the much more brutal HR dungeons. Unfortunately, our internal capacity has limits in finding the correct balance for the new HR dungeons, and our goal is to fine-tune this system along with the hardcore community so we can properly release a “Return to the Hardcore Dungeons” by the start of the next season.

We also like to notify players that the current Arena Test Season #2 will be ending soon in March. Please see the timer in the Arena leaderboard for the precise date. We’ve collected good data and will be making some adjustments for Arena Test Season #3 which will begin shortly afterwards. Please note that for the shortened Arena Test Season #3, we plan to temporarily allow players to keep their items after a loss, even if the item does not have the “Found by the player” designation. We also plan to update the map rotation for the next Arena season including the addition of new modules.

Finally, players will now be able to see their ban/report data for the cheaters they have reported. The data is displayed for a rolling reporting period (currently set at the previous 30 days.) We plan to utilize this data to make large improvements to the reporting system and build a cleaner experience for everyone. We thank you for your continued support and see you in the dungeons!

We’d like to thank you for your patience as we return from our extended Lunar new year’s break. We are feeling rejuvenated and want to share an adjustment to our development schedule. To help improve our development process we will be experimenting with patches that are spaced slightly further apart. We have been making internal adjustments and feel that this additional development time will help us improve the quality of the updates. As for this hotfix, we continue our quest to flesh out the Random Dungeon system. We have added our largest batch of new modules and have expanded the Inferno dungeon to a 5x5 layout. The timer of the Inferno floor has been increased to compensate for the larger size. We’ve also concentrated on numerous QoL improvements including the ability to save specific gear sets with the Squire and several enhancements to the Marketplace and Achievements experience. Developer Comments

This hotfix prepares for the start of the Adventure Leaderboard and Arena test seasons. In preparation for the Arena season, we have made some minor class balance changes including the addition of shapeshift cooldowns for the Druid class. We’ve also updated the Arena MMR calculations to be a bit more predictable. We also introduced a new sash item that can be purchased from the Tailor in preparation for the upcoming opening of the religions.

After careful contemplation we have decided to reimplement the lowered gearscore bracket. In addition to concerns about the risk/reward balance affecting onboarding, a major influence in the decision to remove the brackets was a concern that the newly implemented Rookie system would split the population too much, leading to emptier lobbies. The data we’ve collected over the last week shows that usage rates are better than expected and suggests that we should be able to support lower GS lobbies with sufficient players, albeit with longer random matchmaking times.

The lower gearscore brackets weren’t so much about providing a great onboarding experience for new players, (our data suggested otherwise), but to give players of ALL experience levels a way to play the game with a lower entry barrier to combat. For onboarding new players, we are seeing promising results with the new Rookie system and have high hopes with the upcoming tutorial map. As for the low barrier to combat, we had originally seen this bloodthirst for combat as a deficiency of our risk/reward balance and detracting from our original vision. Although we still have some concerns regarding the risk/reward balance, we now understand that the lighter experience provided by the lower GS brackets offers big value to a large segment of our community, regardless of time played.

We now believe we can make the lowered GS brackets work in tandem with our Rookie system and will be testing their return with some fine tuning and balancing. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to improve the experience for a wide array of players. Developer Comments

Our plan this season is to continually expand the Random Dungeons system to work with more and more locations. With that in mind, we have now applied the system to the Inferno map. Adventurers must now explore and traverse the modified modules of Inferno to find the Ghost King’s lair.

We have also decided to adjust the matchmaking pools based on the result of recent player behavior. The continuous matchmaking (CMM) system has greatly improved player agency when it comes to risk/reward decisions in the dungeons. However, as a side-effect of the new risk/reward relationship, the current gear-score divisions have started having the opposite effect of what we intended. Instead of serving as stepping stones for newer players, the lower gear score divisions have become killing grounds with bloodthirsty players having little to lose.

We want to rebalance the risk/reward factor and return a sense of danger and decision making when assessing combat situations in the dungeons. We don’t want the default decision for players to simply run headlong into battle. Therefore, we have decided to test the removal of the lower gear-score lobbies in their respective Normal and HR matchmaking pools. We feel that this change is reasonable since players now have more agency than ever to get out of sticky situations without gear-score being the deciding factor.

We still want to foster new players as they learn the ropes in the more dangerous dungeons. The previous gear-score divisions served as a poor way of on-ramping new players. Instead, we will now start testing a separate matchmaking pool for newer players. We’ll continue to adjust these new matchmaking pools to give ALL players a good balance of risk, reward, and progression.

On the balance front, we have made improvements to lesser used class skills. Please note that the current Winter Holiday Event will end after maintenance on January 23rd. Jolly Nicholas will be leaving so be sure to use your Candycanes and Gingerbread Cookies soon! Finally, we have implemented the platform migration feature for legacy Blacksmith users who wish to migrate to a mainstream platform. We thank you for your patience and see you in the dungeons!

Developer Comments

This hotfix addresses several high priority issues as we begin tuning the Sorcerer and the Continuous Matchmaking features. We have scaled back the power of Sorcerer spells and perks that were too excessive. The update also fixes a setting with the Continuous Matchmaking that allowed players to spawn too closely to other players and monsters upon loading into the dungeons. Now that that issue is fixed, we will continue to monitor our logs and will adjust various factors such as the cutoff time for when new players can enter a session and number of players per floor. Please note that the values for these settings were set aggressively for the initial iteration so we could gauge the extremes. We’d also like to clarify that going down a level does NOT transfer you to a higher gear score session. The gear score of your initial dungeon will always determines the matchmaking pool until you exit that dungeon series. We encourage looting and trying to gain a gear score advantage on the upper floors as we believe there should always be a risk/reward consideration on when you go down a floor.   • Added the new Continuous Matchmaking system. You can now enter a dungeon that is currently in session. You can also extract or go down to the next floor much earlier. We will be tuning the parameters for this system in real time, including the player density, the entrance cutoff time, and other values to improve the dynamic feel of the dungeons.
  • Added a Random Dungeon generation system. Please note that this system is only working on the ‘Crypt’ dungeon at this time. Modules in the ‘Crypt’ are now randomly placed, adding an element of mystery and unpredictability. Once we establish a good baseline with the ‘Crypt’ dungeon, we will adapt and introduce the remaining dungeons to work with this system throughout this season.
  • Added Fog of War feature to ‘Crypt’ dungeon to synergize with the random dungeon system. A Fog of War appears over the map and minimap of the Crypt and is only uncovered for areas you have explored.
  • Added an Endless Portal in the Inferno dungeon. The Endless Portal unlocks when the boss in the Inferno level is defeated and can be used to extract by everyone.

Developer Comments

All characters have been reset for the start of this new early access season. We have also reset the Triumph levels for all accounts.

This season introduces several new systems as we return to our roots of building an engaging multiplayer dungeon crawler. EA Season 4 & 5 introduced changes that made the dungeons too predictable and led to a stagnation of gameplay. Our goal this season is to return some of the unpredictability and mysteriousness to the dungeons.

We have now implemented our first iteration of a random dungeon system. We will start off by using the ‘Crypts’ dungeon as the testing ground for this system while we fine tune the settings to generate compelling dungeons to explore. We plan to progressively adapt more and more dungeon biomes to work with the random generation system throughout this season. The other advantage of this system is that it significantly reduces the overhead to add new dungeon modules, which we plan to take full advantage of this season.

We have also implemented a continuous matchmaking system. The continuous matchmaking system means that players can join a dungeon that is already in progress and are no longer limited to entering only at the start of a session. This system gives greater agency to players so they can simply select the dungeon and difficulty without needing to wait for a map rotation. This system also allows us to more efficiently populate dungeons, leading to better quality sessions even for low population regions.

This season introduces the new Sorcerer class. The sorcerer is a master of the elements and can weave together multiple spells to devastating results. Please note that the current implementation is a work in progress as we build on offering a unique spell casting experience.

We have also added several improvements to give players additional goals. A new item socket feature allows users to customize their items by infusing the power of gems. A new achievement system allows adventurers to track special accomplishments with the future goal of unlocking cool in-game rewards. We’ve also updated the quest system, so progress is now synchronized across all characters on an account.

We have a lot of exciting updates planned for this season. Prepare for the inaugural season of the Arena with a full ranking system and rewards. We also plan to augment the Religion system to offer more incentives to donate to a god of your choice. Now that we have a better handle on the item balance, we look forward to finally improving the versatility of the character builds with some big changes.
